Barbara Ann McCurdy Adair, 89, passed from this earth Monday, June 8th, 2026 surrounded by loved ones. She was born on December 29, 1936 at Rogers Hospital in Decatur to Allan and Ruth (Taylor) McCurdy.
Funeral Service is 3:00 p.m. Wednesday, June 10th at Hawkins Funeral Home in Decatur. John McCurdy will officiate.
Barbara was an only child, that worked alongside her dad as hard as any son would, and learned to cook as well from her mom. She has 3 children, Sheryl, Tamra, Mark and wife Connie, she has 5 grandchildren, Kyle (Dusty) and wife Heather Stephens, Ryan and wife Krystin Starnes, Misty and husband Kamron McMahan, Shane and wife Kelsey Starnes, and Chasen and wife Kailen Starnes. Barbara has 11 great-grandchildren, Maven, Zane, Chole, Jalynn, Kade, Ryker, Kinsler, Rayse, Bella, Klara & Scottie Ann. Barbara also leaves behind her longtime farming rival, repairman and Sunday lunch date at the Longhorn Café in Bowie, Bob Hicks and his amazing family; numerous cousins and a host of friends.
Barbara attended Elementary School at Blewett, she graduated Decatur High School in 1955, where she was head cheerleader. She worked at Swift Armour in the historic Stockyards then Star Tank in Rhome. In the 80’s she worked at First national Bank and went to numerous track meets & basketball games watching her baby do her thing!
Her most loved job was driving cars for James Wood Motors, her and her Papa would travel many miles seeing the fields & crops along the way, she drove James to his medical appointments and of course had “farm” conversations along the way.
She was the fourth-generation farmer of Meadow Valley Farms established in 1899. Barbara loved her cows, and working on the farm, she would beam with pride whenever the VET would complement her calves, you won’t find a harder working woman, and as most of you James Wood People know she did it at break neck speed! She was rushing everywhere she went, grass didn’t grow under her and WAIT was a four-letter word to her!
