Funeral service is 10:00 a.m. Friday, July 31st at the Coker-Hawkins Funeral Home Chapel with Reverend Elaine Bussey officiating. Interment will follow service at the Hilltop Memorial Park Cemetery in Carrollton, Texas. Family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
Asa was born June 23, 1933 in Dallas, Texas to John David and Leona P. (Godwin) Johnson. He married Charlotte Elaine Ellis on April 10, 1967 in Carrollton, Texas.
Asa joined the United States Coast Guard when he was 17 and continued his education while serving his country. Upon his discharge, Carrollton High School awarded him his diploma from his old alma mater. After returning home, he started his career in the auto industry, first owning several service stations in Carrollton and then becoming a car/truck salesman.
Asa was highly respected by his many friends and in the automotive industry from Carrollton, to Grand Prairie to Decatur. He was a generous man who quietly helped many people and never expected recognition. He loved the land and his cattle, but most of all he loved his wife and family.
Left behind to cherish his memory are his wife, of 42 years, Charlotte Johnson of Chico; son, Asa Johnson, Jr. and wife, Amberly of Decatur, Jon Johnson and wife, Vanessa of Bridgeport; granddaughters, Stefani Johnson of Arlington and Jordan Johnson of Decatur; grandsons, Cody Johnson of Mansfield, A.J. Johnson of Decatur and Dylan Glover of Bridgeport; great granddaughter, Makenzie Carter of Bridgeport; brother, Tommy Johnson of Gun Barrel, Texas; and sister, LaPat Brewer of Bryan, Texas.
