Runaway Bay - Anna Catherine German, 96, went to be with the Lord on Sunday, August 2, 2026, in Decatur.
The funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, August 7th at Hawkins Funeral Home Chapel in Bridgeport, with burial at East Bridgeport Cemetery. The family will receive friends 6:00-8:00 p.m. on Thursday at the funeral home.
Anna Catherine Cokeley German was born on November 27, 1929, on a farm near Ames, Oklahoma. Her parents were Forrest Edwin and Versa Merle (Munkres) Cokeley. Anna grew up on the farm and attended a country school, Forest Home, for 8 years. She graduated from Ames High School in Ames, Oklahoma, where she had many friends who remained in touch with each other throughout the years. Anna was united in marriage to Earl C. German on September 27, 1949, in San Diego, California.
Anna was a person who had a wealth of love in her heart for those close to her: children, grandchildren, sister, brothers, and close friends. She had a capacity for love that had no bounds. Anna was generous with her time, companionship, possessions, talents and with her life. She loved people, was outgoing, and had many friends. She found joy in baking, arranging beautiful flowers, sewing, and quilting, sharing her creativity and love through the thoughtful gifts and lasting memories she created for family and friends. Her children and grandchildren were the loves of her life and source of joy and pride. Anna was a beloved daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend to many who will miss her dearly.
She was preceded in death by her husband Earl, her parents Forrest and Versa, her brothers Jimmy and Lee Cokeley, and her sister Carolyn Stricker.
Those left behind to cherish her memory are her children; Earlene M. Shepherd and her husband Joe of Willow Point, Patricia A. Smith and her husband Johnie of Alvord, Michael L. German of Graford, and Mark German and his wife Bettie of Chico; her grandchildren, Paula Fippinger and her husband Zach of Runaway Bay, Micky Shepherd and his wife Jennifer of Colleyville, Nick Shepherd and his wife Belinda of Buffalo Gap, David Smith and his wife Crystal of Wichita Falls, Jessica G. Smith of Alvord, Taylor German and his wife Meghan of Chico, and Morgan German of Chico; her great-grandchildren, Madeline, Lindsey, Mason, Olivia, Sadie, Alaric, Parker, Campbell, Marley, and Miley; numerous other relatives and a large host of friends.
