Amber (Gonzales) Leisha Sahagun

March 16, 1981 — March 19, 2020

Amber was born on March 16, 1981 in Bridgeport, Texas to Junior Gonzales and Iris Poyner. Amber passed away on March 19, 2020 in Odessa, Texas.

Memorial service will be 1:00 p.m. Saturday, March 28, 2020 at Hawkins Funeral Home in Bridgeport.

Amber brought to her family a laugh that will be remembered for a lifetime and a smile that can never be forgotten.  Amber loved to drive around with the windows rolled down and listening to loud music.  She worked in a variety of different careers within the medical field and was known as a people person. She loved music, the color purple, and above all, her family.

Amber is remembered as the one in the family who often recalled, in the most hilarious of fashions, different events from her and her families lives, bringing a smile to everyone’s face that was quickly accompanied with loads of laughter. Amber was a great storyteller and a thinker to say the least.

Amber was tough and wore many hats in life. She was a daughter, great-grand daughter, granddaughter, sister, friend, niece, cousin and mother.

Throughout Amber’s life there was a lot of hardship and it was in the challenges that she faced where her family saw a testament to strength she possessed. Her life was a testament to the power of perseverance and will forever inspire us when we face challenges throughout our lifetimes.

It was over the last couple of months that Amber dedicated time to reach out to her family and amend any lingering disagreements. She made a progressive effort to work through differences to build a closer relationship with her family. Amber left us with a message of unity and hope; a message of forgiveness and appreciation for others.

A message not only for our family but for any family out there that is not as close as they would like to be. Families who may have disagreements that are creating division, that need to make amends. For anyone who just wishes they were closer to their family, today is the day to make those amendments and to put forth the effort necessary to connect in a way you may never have known was possible. Thank you Amber.

Left behind to cherish her memories are her two sons, Malakai Sahagun and Christian Rodriguez; her great grandmother, Esperanza Garza; grandparents, Edward and Eloiza Gonzales; father, Junior Gonzales and wife Salena; mother, Iris Poyner; aunt, Sandy Cobb and uncle David Cobb; uncle, Danny Gonzales;  brothers, Abel, Anthony, Alec and Adrian Gonzales; cousins, Lupe, Robert, Connie, Larry, and Gabriel; numerous extended family and a host of friends.
