Decatur ~ James “Rodney” Wilson, 89, a retired machinist, went to be with our Lord Friday, September 6, 2019 in Decatur.
Funeral is 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, September 10, 2019 at Decatur Church of Christ with burial in Sycamore Cemetery. Family will receive friends 6-8 p.m. Monday at Hawkins Funeral Home in Decatur.
Rev. Rick Ross, Matt Weathers and Craig Jordan will officiate. Pallbearers include Cody Wilson, Travis Wilson, Chance Wilson, J.J. Wilson, Devin Wilson, Dustin Wilson and Eric Hillary. Honorary pallbearers are Matt Weathers, Jimmy Meyers, David Hillary, Wendal Bridges and Andrew Small.
James was born on March 11, 1930 to James John Wilson and Elsie Marie (Hayes) Wilson in Greenwood, Texas. He was united in marriage to Mary Ella Walker on April 22, 1950 in Decatur. James retired from General Dynamics in 1991 after 43 years. He was a member of the Decatur Church of Christ for 69 years, and was an avid outdoorsman that raised 4 sons on bobwhite quail and venison.
Those left behind to cherish his memory are his wife of 69 years, Mary Ella Wilson of Greenwood; his sons, David Wilson and wife Becky of Greenwood, Ricky Wilson of Greenwood, Logan Wilson of Greenwood, Randy Wilson and wife Melissa of Greenwood; sisters Joyce Forgnson and husband James of Hungerford, Trudy Wilson Williams and husband Ernie of Big Sandy; brother Gaylen Wilson of Greenwood; and sister-in-law Beth Wilson; his grandchildren, Shannon Meyers and husband Jimmy of Slidell, Rhonda Weathers and husband Matt of Slidell, Cody Wilson and wife Lauren, David Hillary of Fort Worth, Eric Hillary and wife Jessica of Greenwood, Dustin Wilson and wife Blair of Denton, Devin Wilson and wife Carlie of Willis, Travis Wilson and wife Dayna of Greenwood, Kristin Small and husband Andrew of Slidell, J.J. Wilson and wife Ashley of Canton, and Chance Wilson and wife Emily of Greenwood; 26 great grandchildren, and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and a host of friends.
