Fern Poynor Obituary

Dallas ~ Fern DeLois Huestis Poynor, 90, passed away peacefully in Dallas, Texas, on Friday, October 11, 2019.

Funeral is 2:00 p.m. Wednesday at Runaway Bay Community Church with burial in Eternal Oaks Cemetery in Runaway Bay. Family will receive friends 6-8 p.m. Tuesday at Hawkins Funeral Home in Bridgeport.

Rev. Olin Collins will be officiating. Pallbearers include Patrick Poynor, Nicholas Poynor, Douglas Poynor, Noah Reagor, Shannan Reagor, and Joshua Kirkham.

Fern was born October 20, 1928 to William R. and Cleo (Huestis) Pippen in Vernon, Texas. They preceded her in death. She had an older brother, Roy Burkett Huestis and an older sister, Nadine Huestis Stephens, both of whom have preceded her in death. Also lost was her youngest son, Richard Lee Poynor, who passed away in 2012. She graduated from Cisco High School in 1946 and went on to college at Texas Tech where she married fellow student, Edward Glenn Poynor, in 1948, who had also graduated from Cisco High School; the couple had 3 sons over the next 5 years.

Glenn was in the oil and gas services business and the family lived in several places in the Permian Basin, including Seminole, Post, Snyder, Hobbs, New Mexico, Odessa, and Midland. In 1966 the family moved to Jacksboro, and then to Runaway Bay in 1974. All 3 sons graduated from Jacksboro High School.

Glenn and Fern were married for 60 years until his death in 2009. Fern was an avid oil-on-canvas painter and she taught art lessons for many years while raising her three sons. She loved listening to music, reading, watching the Rangers, Cowboys, and going on “date night” to the Friday evening movies. In Runaway Bay, she joined the Community Church, the Country Club, and the Ladies Golf Association. She and Glenn loved to attend the Saturday night dances.

Those left behind to cherish her memory are her sons, Dr. Wesley Jim Poynor and wife Kay of Dallas and Garland Roy Poynor of Morgan Mill; her daughter-in-law, Cathy Smith Poynor of Runaway Bay; her grandchildren, Patrick Poynor and wife Kristen of Dallas (their sons, Oliver and Thomas), Ariane Reagor and husband Shannan of Brock (their sons, Noah, Nicholas, and Darin), Douglas Poynor of Mansfield, Adrienne Poynor Kirkham and husband Joshua of Decatur (their children, Aniston, Weston, and Briston), and Nicholas Glenn Poynor and wife Leanne of Wichita Falls; her nieces, Holly Johnson of Plano, Lynda Reed of Garland, Becky Adams of Houston, and Sharon Stephens of Arlington; her brothers-in-law, Max Poynor and wife Susan of Fort Worth (and his daughters, Lana Cavassa of Atlanta, Georgia, Lisa Poynor Chenot of Waco, Lara Poynor Whitfield of Dallas, and Deryk Poynor of Fort Worth), and Clay Poynor and wife Sandra of Bridgeport (their children, T.J. of Fort Worth, Tres of Decatur, and Lindsey of Lewisville).

In Lieu of flowers, memorials are encouraged to the Texas Scottish Rite Hospital for Children, Dallas, Texas, (800-421-1121 or www.scottishritehospital.org) in the name of Fern and Glenn Poynor.
