Elaine Boyer Obituary

Decatur ~ Elaine Gregg Boyer, 97, passed away Wednesday, June 27, 2019 in Denton.
 
Graveside is 2:00pm Wednesday, July 3, 2019 at Pleasant Grove Cemetery #1.
 
Elaine was born May 14, 1922 to John Ernest and Mary Elizabeth (Williams) Gregg in Hubbard, Texas. She grew up in Marfa, TX, graduated from UT-Austin, and met her future husband, Lee Hill Boyer, while he was stationed in Marfa during World War II. Lee and Elaine married January 26, 1946 in Marfa. They raised 4 children as Lee Hill’s work took them to Oklahoma, Tennessee, Idaho, Texas and Norway. In retirement they moved back to Texas and eventually to Decatur, near where Elaine’s father was raised.
 
Elaine was a talented quilter and needlewoman. She enjoyed playing piano, organ and hand bells, and was a member of the Methodist church. Elaine cherished her family, doing extensive genealogical work, and participating faithfully in annual Gregg reunions.
 
Elaine is predeceased by her husband of 53 years, parents, brother John Ernest Gregg, Jr, and son John Fred Boyer, Those left behind to cherish her memory are her 3 daughters, Judy Boyer Deaton of Decatur, Jannette Boyer of Hilton Head, South Carolina, and Ellen Boyer of Lake Worth; her sister, Mary Elizabeth Gregg of Denton; her 2 granddaughters, Emma Hodcroft of Basel, Switzerland, and Lizzy Hodcroft of Newcastle, England; a niece and 3 nephews in Colorado, New Mexico, and Texas; and a host of cousins in the Wise County area
 
In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to Wise County Historical Society, the Cornell Lab of Ornithology, or the First United Methodist Church of Decatur.
