My thoughts and prayers are with Brett's family. I meet Brett at Bowie HS when we were sophomores. We played JV baseball together and Brett was always singing a song, usually 'Margaritaville" by Jimmy Buffett. He always had a big smile and kept things light-hearted. Great memories of out times during HS and graduation. When I saw him last at our 30th HS reunion, he was the same funny, smiling, and genuine guy. We kept in touch over the years on Facebook, he would,, from time to time, send me funny videos, messages or memes. Brett is definitely one of the good guys and I am sad that his life was taken away. I hope the many great memories of Brett will lift your family during this difficult time. My wish is that God be with each of you and wrap his arms around you. May God bless and keep you always.
My deepest condolences,
Zane Gober

To my dear daughter Ellisha and her lovely sister Haley,
With a very sad heart and feelings of awkwardness I find myself wanting to reach out to you.
Your dad’s and my relationship was not your typical norm. It was out of that uniqueness that wonderful things grew. Important things like forgiveness, compassion, understanding and the love that grows out of all those things. Amazingly, we became very close and dear friends.
The day you met your dad was beyond description happy and so very thankful.
I personally know how proud he was of both of you. To see all that you accomplished in life and at such young ages blew his mind. He definitely had his regrets for mistakes he made along the way. But, never a moment he didn’t always want your best and love you. More than anything he wanted to see you fulfill your dreams and to be happy in life. Of course, if one of you played the guitar he wouldn’t mind a bit!
I know your hearts are broken. Think of each of your tears you shed as a love note rising to your dad in heaven. In your love notes let him know that you miss him dearly. But, that you know he is always right by your side. Your dad’s spirt lives on in heaven and on earth through each of you.
I’m so very sorry for you pain.
Mom (Carol)

Brett was to be our new guitarist. He only practiced with us. I wish we had had the chance to make music & memories & know him better. Heaven has gained a new player & I'm sure they are Rockin' on the BIGGEST stage ever. R.I.P. Mr. Bethurum. Save me a spot. We will Rock out again.

Our hearts are broken over Brett's untimely death. He was such a sweet, friendly guy, and we loved hearing him play and sing with our son, Larry, and the other guys.

Dear Bethurum Family,
Prayers are steadily going up for all of you. It has been years since I have seen your precious family, but my childhood memories growing up on Jewell Drive are so treasured. Especially this one time my parents were not home, I was playing school at the table and I kept hearing a scratching on the window. I went to the living room with my sister and brother, told them of course they didn't think anything of it until my sister gets up to go into the kitchen and sees the back sliding door open. We ran screaming down the street to your house. Jerry put on his shoes and we all went back to our house, he immediately went to the back door and guess what he found in the backyard .... BRETT .. he was laying under our rabbit cages laughing at his prank. Jerry scolded him for upsetting us! Memories are what help us live on and I will always cherish them. We are praying for the entire family. Thank goodness for Facebook where I am friends with Lisa and we can keep in touch. Great childhood memories :)

It's hard to believe you are no longer with us. I'll so miss listening to you and your band. My last memory was a few weeks ago, sitting outside in great weather at Flight on Eagle Mountain Lake. You sang "Jenny I got your number" for me letting everyone know at the bar my name. Thank you! LOL You were also the object of mine and Kelly's shenanigans that night which I'll never forget. Thank you for some great memories, you'll be greatly missed.

I am very saddened by this tragedy. I want to send my deepest sympathy to Brett's family. I have known him for a long time and just saw him a few weeks ago. He was still the same old cool, classy Brett that played lead guitar in our band "Country Mile". I will be praying for you all in the days and weeks ahead that God will comfort and keep you. And to Brett........Buddy, I'll bet that the guitar solos sound 10 times as good in Heaven.....keep jammin until we meet again.....Godspeed amigo!
