Allen Poe Dickey

Boyd ~ Allen Poe Dickey, 83, went home to be with our Lord Tuesday, May 21, 2019, in Boyd.

Funeral is 1:00 p.m. Saturday, May 25, 2019, at the First United Methodist Church in Boyd with burial in Cottondale Cemetery. Family will receive friends 11:00 a.m.-1:00 p.m. Saturday at the church.

Rev. J.D. Allen and Rev. John Bickham will officiate. Pallbearers include Brian Dickey, Randall Erwin, Russell Dickey, Bret Dickey, Trey Dennis, and Lane Mathis. Honorary pallbearers include Tony Ray Dickey, David Dickey, Bobby Allen Dickey, Jimmy Dickey, Ronnie Dickey, Guy Thomas Dickey, Braden Byrne, Mark Romines, and Darryl Gilbert.

Allen was born May 15, 1936 to Merlin Henry and Lillie Mae (Anderson) Dickey in Rhome. He graduated from Northwest High School in 1955 and proudly served our country in the United States Army. Allen was united in marriage October 24, 1964 to Judy Beth Morehead in Boyd at the United Methodist Church. Together they raised four children and were always active in youth and school organizations. They owned and operated businesses in Boyd for at least 35 years.

By trade he was a pipe fitter and member of the Local Union 146 Fort Worth. Allen was a former Wise County Commissioner of Precinct 3 and served as Mayor of the city of Boyd.

He proudly served the Boyd Youth Association as their president and was a beloved coach of both football and baseball, coaching all ages. Allen was a former Commissioner of the North Texas Youth Association.

He was an active member of the First United Methodist Church, serving in many leadership capacities. Allen was a lifelong member of the Boyd Masonic Lodge #479. He had many hobbies including bronze sculpting, western iron sculpting, and oil painting. Allen’s artwork exhibits were on display at the Fort Worth Stock Show and Rodeo for several years.

Allen was a musician as well, playing guitar, fiddle, and banjo. Many weekends were spent with friends and family playing country and bluegrass, with lots of singing and dancing. These weekends also included countless Sunday dinners and heated domino and tripolee matches. He and his father-in-law, Foy Morehead were normally partnered up, most often his wife and mother-in-law, Connie Morehead beat the pants off of them in pretty much any game they played, the four would laugh at some of the choices Allen had made and plan for a rematch for the next weekend. He was very much dedicated to his family and enjoyed spending all of his free time with them.

He is preceded in death by his parents; his mother and father-in-law; his brother, Emmitt Wayne Dickey; his sister, Jackie Ruth; his sister-in-law, Christine Dickey; and his nephew, Rodger Dale Moore; his brothers-in law, A.T. Moore, and Grover Malone.

Those left behind to cherish his memory are his wife of 54 years, Judy Dickey, of Boyd; his sons, Tommy Dickey and wife Stacy of Boyd, Barry Dickey and wife Kerri of New Braunfels; his daughters, Cindy Dickey of Lindale, and Staci Romine and husband Mark of Boyd; his grandchildren, Erica Dickey of Joplin, Missouri, Brian Dickey, and wife Kendal of Lindale, Russell Dickey, and wife Tiffany of Boston, Massachusetts, Jeffrey Baxter of Boyd, Jennifer Dennis, and husband Trey of Boyd, Randall Erwin, and wife Brittany of Boyd, Erin, Bret and Ryan Dickey of New Braunfels; his great-grandchildren, Alayna, Blaine, Bryson, Wyatt, Miley, and Ryott; his brothers, Jim Dickey and wife Norma of San Angelo, Tony Dickey and wife Dorris, and Raymond Dickey and companion and Betty Caldwell, all of Rhome; his sisters, Marie Moore of Rhome, Berta Gilbert and husband Dalton of Crowley; brother-in-law, Barry Morehead and wife Janet of Orleans, California; sister-in-law, Sue Dickey of Azle; numerous nieces, nephews, and their families; and a host of friends.
