Parker, Colorado ~ Steve Downs, 79, a retired software engineer, went to be with our Lord Friday, February 16, 2018 in Lone Tree, Colorado.
Funeral is 2:00 p.m. Thursday, February 22, 2018 at Hawkins Funeral Home Chapel with burial in East Bridgeport Cemetery. Family will receive friends 6-7 p.m. Wednesday at Hawkins Funeral Home in Bridgeport.
Bill Fitch will officiate. Pallbearers include Jay Dillon, Jim Dillon, Chris Downs, Tony Downs, Dave Echternach and Jon Ranney.
Steve was born on December 21, 1938 to Robert and Hazel (McCracken) Downs in Fort Worth, Texas. He was united in marriage to Peggy Marcus on December 30, 1961 in Hobbs, New Mexico.
Steve in the United States Army for over 24 years. During that time, he was awarded the Army Commendation Medal; Army Service Ribbon; Bronze Star; Good Conduct Medal; Meritorious Service Medal; Meritorious Unit Commendation; NCO Professional Development Ribbon; National Defense Service Medal; Overseas Service Ribbon; Republic of Vietnam Civil Actions Medal; Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal; Vietnam Service Medal; and the Vietnamese Cross of Gallantry. He also was an excellent Marksman (pistol); Sharpshooter (rifle). Steve bridged his service to the country with his work at Northrop Grumman by developing software for the military.
He was preceded in death by his parents; Earl C McCracken and Hazel McCracken.
Those left behind to cherish his memory are his wife of 57 years, Peggy Downs of Parker, Colorado; his daughter, Deborah Ranney of Aurora, Colorado; his son Tony Downs and wife Alison of Plano; his grandchildren; Dawn (Roush) Cisneros, Stephen Roush, Jon Ranney, Chris Downs and Heather Downs, and his great grandchild; Taylor Cisneros and a host of friends.
